Guided and promoted by Guangdong Development and Reform Commission (GDDRC), Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd of China Energy Engineering Group (GEDI), Clean Fossil Energy Corporation, UK CCS Research Centre (UKCCSRC) and Scottish CCS Centre jointly commenced innovative research on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) in 2013. During Guangdong delegation’s visit to UK, a Memorandum of CCUS Industry and Academic Communication Promotion was signed on behalf of Xiaodan Zhu, Governor of Guangdong province, and Gregory Baker, Director of UK Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) on September 27, 2013. On December 18, 2013, the UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Industry Promotion and Academic Collaboration Centre, dubbed the ‘UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre’, was launched in Guangzhou. On December 19, Zhenhua Xie, Deputy Director of NDRC, and Shaohua Xu, Executive Vice Governor of Guangdong province attended the ceremony. Later on,the UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre organised the First Guangdong International CCUS Expert Workshop.
