International CO2 Offshore Storage Roundtable Held in Beijing and Guangzhou

The International CO2 Offshore Storage Roundtable organized by UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre is held in Beijing and Guangzhou on Jan. 13-14. More than 40 distinguished Chinese and International CCUS experts have agreed to join and share their thoughts to get ready for the forthcoming CO2 offshore storage demonstration project in South China.

The main objectives of this conference are providing a comprehensive overview of CO2 Offshore Storage Development in China, UK, US, Norway and Australia, assessing the long-term need for developing offshore CO2 storage in South China, exploring the potential of R&D and business collaboration for your organization and providing an opportunity for participants to be involved in the future CCUS Hub and develop CCUS cluster in Southern China.

Mr. Sun Zhen, the deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Mr. Chen Zhihua, the deputy director of the International Cooperation Center at NDRC, Dr. Wu Daowen, the deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission (GDDRC), Mr. Hong Jianwu, the director of Climate Department, Mr. Abu Zaki, the manager of International Climate Fund (ICF) of Department of Energy & Climate Change(UK DECC), Mr David Mohler, the deputy assistant secretary of Office of Clean Coal and Carbon Management, US Department of Energy (US DOE) address on the conference.

Ms Annika Seiler, Finance Specialist of Asian Development Bank (ADB),Prof Jon Gibbins, Deputy Director of UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre and Director of UKCCSRC, Prof LIN Qianguo, Consultant of GCCSI, Prof Tip Meckel, Research Scientist Bureau of Economic Geology, The University of Texas at Austin, Prof ZHOU Di, Expert of UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre, Professor of South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS),  Mr HOU Zhanggui, Chief Engineer of CNOOC Huizhou Refinery, are invited to give speeches on the topics of CCS Roadmap of ADB, Progress of Overseas Offshore CO2 Storage Project, Economic Evaluation of the Integrated CCS Process, Offshore Storage Research Projects in North America, Key Findings and Future Research Programme of Guangdong Offshore CO2 Storage R&D Projects.

China’s International Offshore Storage Expert Network kicks-off on the conference on Jan.13. Experience of offshore EOR from industry, CO2 offshore storage monitoring and environmental impact, CO2 transportation,CO2 offshore storage are discussed on the conference in the afternoon.

Dr.WU Daowen from Guangdong Province Development and Reform Commission and Mr CHEN Lan, Director of UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre make an opening speech. Mr GAO Ruimin from research institute of Yanchang Petroleum introduces the development of CCUS in Yanchang Petroleum and suggests on the potential cooperation of Yanchang and Guangdong.

Guangdong Carbon Capture and Emission Trading Linkage Project launches on the Jan.14 conference which international experts share their experience and advice on development of Guangdong CCS and Emission Trading Linkage.
