Introduction to GCCSI and Overview of 2013 Global CCS Projects Progress

Qianguo LIN from GCCSI China Office attended the 1st Guangdong International CCUS Expert Workshop and UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre Launch Ceremony hold on December 18, 2013, in Guangdong Province, and made the welcome address and the keynote speech titled “Introduction to GCCSI and Overview of 2013 Global CCS Projects Progress”.

Firstly, he made the introduction of GCCSI. He said:” Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute accelerates the development, demonstration and deployment of CCS, which is one of the available options to reduce GHG emitted by power generation and industry development through our global knowledge sharing activities. And we work to create favourable conditions to implement CCS widely.”

He then introduced the distribution of large-scale CCS projects: America has the most middle-stage projects, which are most EOR. Most Chinese projects are at their early stages. There are 21 technology evaluation projects. He made some suggestions: 1. CCUS commercialization should be formed by permanent actions; 2. we should carry out lasting academic communication activities to keep the focus on CCUS. 3. We need to enhance the competitive mechanism, of  which UK has been the leader. Finally, he called for strengthening international cooperation to create favorable conditions to CCS development.
