The 1st Guangdong International CCUS Expert Workshop and UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre

The 1st Guangdong International CCUS Expert Workshop and UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre was held on December 18, 2013, in Guangdong Province. It gathered a group of experts and professors from NDRC, MOST, Guangdong provincial government, Guangdong DRC, British Embassy in China, Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute, GCCSI China Office, UKCCSRC etc.

Senior Official from Guangdong Government made a Welcome Address first. Launch of UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Industry Promotion and Academic Collaboration Centre was witnessed by Guangdong provincial government senior officials, NDRC senior officials, Guangdong DRC officials, Senior Official from British Embassy in China.

Then, Tian Chengchuan, Director General of Strategic Office, Climate Change Department, NDRC, made the welcome address and the keynote speech titled “Chinese CCS Policy”. He said: “CCUS has gained international concerns as a potential technology which can reduce emission in a large scale.” Xiangwu KANG from MOST made an introduction to Chinese CCS R&D Activities and CCUS Association. “Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute accelerates the development, demonstration and deployment of CCS, which is one of the available options to reduce GHG emitted by power generation and industry development through our global knowledge sharing activities,” said Qianguo LIN from GCCSI China Office. Liang Xi from University of Edinburgh said, CCUS can both clean up CO2 and other pollution gas to cause synergistic effect on controlling haze.

At the UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre Launch Ceremony, Mr Alastair MORGAN from British Consulate Guangzhou Consular said, the launch of UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre is of course not the culmination of our work but rather a milestone on relationship that has a long way to go.”
