Prof Liao Cuiping received a PhD from East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, an MSc in thermal engineering from Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academic of Science and a BSc in thermal engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Liao gained academic experience in the Centre for Energy Policy and Economics in the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (CEPE, ETH) and attended the course on ‘the economics of energy’ in the UK (provided by the Department of Economics in the University of Birmingham). Liao also worked as a co-member with McKinsey & Company on a joint US and China energy and environment-based initiative to pursue a transformative energy collaboration between China and United State. Liao Cuiping’s research field includes the research and development of the technology and system design for helium purification in high-temperature gas-cooled reactors and a basic research project in a solar energy – metal hydrides hydrogen recycling system for hydrogen storage. From 2000, Liao studied the transformation and transportation of trace elements during the process of gasification, pyrolysis of biomass and the characteristics of biomass in China. From 2004, Liao worked at the Energy Strategy Research Center researching energy economics and policies. Recently, she has been studying energy management and mechanisms of energy efficiency improvement. Currently Liao focuses on the study of a roadmap for low carbon economic development and incentive policies. Liao has been lead author of 15 published papers and produced more than 30 reports.
